Bravo, bravo!!!
I’m with you! On the other hand, I generally think 6+ hours at school is too much for my kids to be away from me. And if they couldn’t learn it in those hours, why would they be able to learn it at home through homework? I come from a family full of teachers, and, well, I’m bucking the system by homeschooling. I often wonder when children spend all of those hours at school, then with homework, followed by the myriad of extra-curricular activities, when do they ever get to be a family? More power to you for being just the kind of parent that public schools need. While I’ve chosen a different path, I have a great deal of respect for those who keep trying to make the system work in the best way possible for the kids!
I agree completely. We are homeschooling as well, but even if we were doing public or private school I would still have a problem with homework.
Although my daughter is only beginning grade 1 I can’t imagine even as she grows older, expecting her to do MORE of the same schoolwork after we are done the days work. It just doesn’t make sense to me.
Bravo! This is one of the Top Five Reasons we homeschool.
Very well written.
Yes. I agree with all of your comments. I have felt this way since my daughter started K three years ago. That is also one of the reasons we are home shcooling as well. We need more parents like yourself speaking up to affect some change.
Homework for our prospective kindergartener is what tipped the scales in favor of homeschooling for us. Starting our 3rd year of hsing with no regrets.
With 5 kids in public school, homework is killing my family life. And yes, I told this to the superintendent of our schools, in front of a packed room of parents. They thought I was nuts, although the superintendent didn’t. It seems most parents WANT their children to have a lot of homework. Not this mom….
