baby names May 31, 2006
I’ve always been a bit obsessed with baby names, so I just love this cool BABY NAME WIZARD THINGIE. Type in a name, any name…
I was surprised to see that “Athena,” which is what my bro and sister in law plan to name their new baby if it’s a girl (mama is Greek) has skyrocketed in popularity in recent years.

Oh, I love that program. It’s confirmed for me that if I ever have kids I’d likely give them traditional names that aren’t all that popular with the possibility of popular nicknames (so the kid can choose as he grows up). For example, I’d like to name a boy William for my grandfather and nickname him Liam.
it’s fantastic, no? i learned of it last summer when expecting and upon showing it to my MIL, she disclosed that laura, the inventor / author, is the niece of one of her best friends. we’ve got an autographed copy of the book that’s been on my nightstand again of late. just for fun! no britneyesque irish twins to confirm….

Is that thing really accurate? It’s way too cool.
I checked it with “Robert” and it seemed to show that not too many people named their children Robert in the 50s … yet I know that there are gazillions of Robert’s from that era.
Very nice though.
