broken leg September 30, 2007
For those who know my sister Betsy en famille, a bit of bad news to pass along: five-year-old McLean broke his leg yesterday, jumping on one of those deathtraps otherwise known as trampolines. They were visiting in Bell Buckle, having taken 4 week old Nancy Catherine down to meet our grandmother for the first time.
It’s a serious break, requiring a nearly full-leg cast. He may have to use a wheelchair instead of crutches. It’s gonna be something for B & R, managing a newborn and a five year old in a cast and wheelchair.
Poor Mac has been a very brave little guy. I know it hurts like mad.

I am very sorry to hear this. Having spent several months in a wheelchair, here are a few tips: If she lives in a 2 story house it will help immensely if she can get an extra wheelchair to keep upstairs. An extra walker also comes in handy for the same reason. Poor little guy. I hope that he heals quickly.
Outlaw trampolines now! Have you never seen an episode of America’s Funniest Home Videos?
All kidding aside, I’d never allow my child on one.
Trampolines are absolutely terrible. #1 cause of injuries - even with those ridiculous nets around them. I would never allow my children on one. I’m so sorry to hear about his injury. Did someone fall on him or did he fall off?
What will be difficult is when your child is having a playdate and their friend does have a trampoline. All the other kids will be jumping around and your child will feel left out.Tough times ahead!(at least the ones with the netting keep the children from flying off and hitting the ground!
