I don’t want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. You know, as a career, I don’t want to do that.

Patchouli plus rancid milk July 4, 2008

I have tried really hard to keep my Honda minivan - now just over a year old - cleaner than my previous vehicles.

Jon helps alot, and I’ve been more careful about letting the kids eat/drink in the car.

But last week I broke my rule and let E. have a milkshake somewhere back in the back of the van. I told him to be sure to throw it away. Then I forgot about it…until the car began smelling of rancid milk.

I thought I got the offending smelly spot cleaned up, but last night H. told me that since it still sort of stunk, he would fix the problem by placing several drops of patchouli oil in the car. I agreed.

This morning my car smells like a foul brew of hippie sweat and curdled goat’s milk. The patchouli was a bad, bad idea. So learn from my mistake.

My sister in law had a similiar thing happen to her and I hate to say the end result was her car stunk so bad they finally traded it in. They took out all the carpet and had it cleaned, spent like $300. I really, really hope yours turns out better.

patchouli???? really bad idea!
try spraying windex into the air vents-my FIL sold cars and always told us to do that-and it did work for us.
and don’t allow patchouli in your house phew

Don’t know if this will help or not, but this was Momma’s fix for a fresh smelling car in the days prior to Febreeze. (Febreeze is good stuff- might really help this situation.)

She’d open a box of Irish Spring soap and leave the soap in the box and put the box under one of the front seats.

After it’d quit smelling fresh, she’d take it in the house to use and replace with a fresh box and bar.

When Emily was about two she spilled a full glass of milk on her bedroom carpet. Her daddy sopped it up with a dry towel but that’s all he did, and no one said anything about it to me until it started to smell absolutely terrible a couple of days later. I poured a whole lot of vinegar on it. The room did smell like vinegar for a few days, but when that smell went away the milk smell was gone too.

Words to live by.

Coffee beans or ground coffee supposedly soak up the odor. There are also products like Petzyme that you can use. To make sure it doesn’t happen again, have the child who left the milk in the car do the cleaning.

And the other odor. Have one do the cleaning and then have the other one clean it. And, then have a professional do the cleaning.

My daughter spilled a bottle of perfume on the rug in her room!

Saturate with Natures Miracle the product that takes out cat or dog urine smell. It will get rid of the patchouli stench.

The other thing that worked for me is Fantastic with oxypower.
